Open Shopping List is an easy to use shopping list
smartphone app and web app. It's designed to allow easy and
efficient synchronization with a server and with other persons.
Install the smartphone application (currently supported
on android),
create your account, and immediately start editing your
shopping list.
Then also access your account on
the web
admin pages (sorry, there's a scary browser security
warning - more info), so that you create and
share more lists from there; you can also
import/export stuff. The lists are
synchronized between your smartphone, the admin
pages, and the friends with which you've activated sharing.
If you don't have or don't want to use a smartphone, you can also
create and use your account only on the web, of course.
Why?
You and your friends can modify the same list each on your
own smartphone and on your desktop computers. New shopping
items pile up during the week and whoever is at the shopping
centre can use the list to get all the needed stuff.
What's inside
There are already a lot of shopping list apps for smartphone and
for desktop; Open Shopping List differentiates with its unique
features set:
- easy and straighforward: no big deal, no big features, when
you login to the admin page or open the app you're directly
viewing your lists; adding/removing/editing an item is
straightforward and fast
- powerful: the desktop app performs limited page
reloading (items adding/removing is done with a background
ajax request) and allows to mass upload items, download into
a CSV for any use in a spreadsheet; the smartphone app has
limited to no confirmation of actions (to let you act fast),
and a "undo" feature for if anything goes wrong
- cloudy: automatically or manually synchronize
your lists between your smartphone, your account on your
desktop computer, and the smartphone of any friends
- secure (or at least, more secure than a lot):
desktop and mobile app protect your privacy by using
cryptographic hashing and secured network communication
(SSL - information about
the security warning) - notice that your data is
stored in cleartext on server, though
- open-source: anyone can check the sourcecode, improve it,
and nothing is lost if ever I stop working on it; and
thanks to the server API,
anyone is welcome to add another supported smartphone
platform (iPhone, anyone?)
- free of charge: as long as the operational cost remains
zero, I see no reason in charging you, so enjoy :)
